Your First Facial Lymphatic Drainage Session: What to Expect

Booking something new for your face can feel a little uncertain. Here's exactly what happens, from the moment you arrive to the morning after.

Booking something new for your face can feel a little uncertain. Will it hurt? What do I wear? Do I need to take my make-up off? Here's exactly what happens during your first facial lymphatic drainage session at Visaj, from the moment you arrive to the morning after.

Before your session

There's very little to prepare. A few simple things help:

  • Please arrive with your make-up removed.
  • Large jewellery (big earrings, necklaces) will be removed before we begin, so you can enjoy the flow of the massage without any limits.
  • Drink water during the day before your session.
  • Let me know about allergies or medical conditions when you book, especially skin conditions, recent cosmetic injections or anything you're being treated for.

When you arrive (5 to 10 minutes)

We start with a short, relaxed chat. I'll ask how you're feeling, where you tend to hold tension, and what you'd like from the session, and I'll explain how the session will flow. I'll give you a clip towel to wear, so you're comfortable and your clothes stay protected if any oil escapes.

Then you lie down, get comfortable, and the rest of the hour is yours.

The massage (45 to 50 minutes, no pauses)

This is what makes a Visaj session different from a standard facial. It's not a layering of creams and masks, it's precise hands that read your face and work with what they find there. There's no switching between products, I stay in contact with you the whole time, the flow is continuous, without stopping. The massage IS the treatment.

The session flows without a break across your shoulders, neck, face and scalp:

  • Neck and shoulders first. This opens the main drainage pathways, so the face can let go more easily.
  • The face. Slow, light, rhythmic strokes along the jaw, cheeks, under the eyes and across the forehead, combined with sculpting techniques that work on tension and contours.
  • The scalp. Many clients are surprised by how much tension they carry here.

Throughout the session, my hands carry magnetism, a gentle form of energy work. It's quiet and subtle. Most clients simply notice a deeper sense of calm. (Curious? Read What Is Energy Healing and Magnetism?)

The closing moment

We finish with a dedicated moment of energy healing, with an eye mask on, then time to come back slowly. No rush to get up.

Does it hurt?

No. Lymphatic drainage uses very light pressure. Sculpting work on the jaw can feel a little firmer, that's intentional: it's the pressure that works best, adapted to your face.

How will I feel afterwards?

Most clients leave feeling lighter, calmer and a little dreamy. Many notice a less puffy, more defined face and a soft glow straight away. To make the most of it, drink plenty of water and keep the rest of your day as gentle as you can.

Before you leave, I'll also show you a few simple exercises to do at home, to help maintain the results between sessions.

The effects usually last around a week. For results that build over time, sessions every 2 to 4 weeks work best (see How Often Should You Get Facial Lymphatic Drainage?).

Why try the natural route first

If this is your first session, it's worth knowing what you're not signing up for: no needles, no downtime, nothing injected or altered under the skin. Facial lymphatic drainage works entirely with what's already there, your own circulation, muscle, and structure, not against it.

Hands-on facial massage, done properly and consistently, is one of the most requested alternatives to injectables right now, and it's more powerful than most people expect. Many clients are genuinely surprised by how much change comes from touch alone. It's worth experiencing the natural route first, before turning to needles or injectables, with none of the risk, recovery time, or permanence.
